What's the Right Thing to Do?(Michael J. Sandel)
Edward.L 2023. 10. 31. 08:42They talk about various social problems and dilemmas as examples, but I would like to say that they make absolutely no sense to me.
There could be more situations than that, but I had very different thoughts about emphasizing only that part.
It may be that there are still many shortcomings, and I think I need to read more books by various people.
I would like to express my personal opinion about a phrase that I think is important.
1. I don’t think it’s right to give money (cash) to poor people.
Whether it is Robinhood or the country, taking the wealth of the rich and giving it to the poor is ultimately theft.

This may be controversial, but I think the way to give cash directly to poor people is not to teach them how to fish, but to catch them and eat them.
For example, during the last coronavirus outbreak, cash was paid to people excluding high income earners.
So, has your thirst been greatly quenched?
Are these cash distributions ultimately subject to taxes, and who collects those taxes?
I believe that temporarily increased income (cash distribution) will eventually lead to continued consumption.
I believe that as consumption increases, existing income will no longer be able to cover it, which will cause more problems.
For example, let's say you received a bonus from your company.
I think we will use that money for our own purposes, whether it be saving, buying luxury goods, or eating delicious food.
But temporary money does not bring much change in a person's life or life, and once you get it, you can only hope for more.
I gave it to you this year, but what if I don’t give it to you next year?
I think dissatisfaction with the company may grow and we may end up comparing ourselves to other companies.
And it is difficult to return the increased spending to past spending habits.
Let’s assume that this year’s salary increases by 100,000 won compared to last year, but next year’s salary decreases by 100,000 won.
A spending habit has been formed as the amount increases by 100,000 won a year. Will it be likely to decrease next year?
That's why, in my personal opinion, I think a system should be created that allows people to make money by systematically putting in a lot of work, rather than just throwing money away.
2. Ultimately, most people’s goal is happiness.
It's 3 a.m. and your college roommate asks you.
Why does she stay up all night worrying about the moral dilemma of runaway tanks?
...

...
“To make a lot of money”
“What do you do when you make a lot of money?”
“I plan to eat my favorite lobster often. Anyway, since I am a sentient being, I am worrying about the problem of runaway trams until late at night!”
Mobile e-book: 297p
I think that most of the reasons we live are because we want to live a happy life with money, like in the example above.
I think the purpose of working is for one's own salary or profit, and ultimately to make more money.
Of course, there are people who really enjoy their work and just want to have fun, but I think the ultimate goal is their own happiness.
That's why people have to work even when it's hard, and they work to live happily or for their own purposes.
Individuals receive education, exercise, improve their skills, get a job at a company, run a business, or become an athlete or artist representing the country, contributing to the country, making money, and living happily.
Therefore, there is no need to envy others, no need to imitate them, no need to curse, and no need to fight with them.
I believe that just being good at what you do helps the country, and that the most important thing is for individuals and families to live well.
