Physics of the Future(Kaku, Michio)
Edward.L 2023. 11. 6. 08:00I was able to think a lot about the future, and there were many stories that I could relate to in many ways.
I don't know if the future will unfold like the contents of this book, but I think it is worth reading if you are curious about the future through a scientific approach. I would like to write down my personal thoughts on phrases that I think are important.
1. Don’t be afraid of the AI era
No matter how much technology advances, software will inevitably be created using today's brains.
Mobile e-book: 145p
Many people think that in the future, robots and AI will reduce human jobs and replace everything with humans, but I believe that will never happen.
In the end, the work that humans must do will be eliminated by robots and AI, but it cannot be said to disappear completely.
Representative tasks are ‘pattern (shape) recognition’ and ‘common sense’.
Mobile eBook: 210p
As mentioned above, I think the biggest problem with AI is pattern recognition and common sense.
No matter how good an AI is at playing baduk, what can it do when it enters society?
Robots and AI only perform a few specialized tasks and have no scalability or creativity.
Increased workloads will ultimately require software upgrades or physical hardware upgrades. But who ultimately does this?
People will have no choice but to do that.
I think there is a bubble because there is a lot of content in media such as movies and dramas that says AI will cause big problems.
I think if that's the real problem,
1) If there is a problem with the person who created the program (or the person who instructs the program)
2) When a program bug occurs
I think so.
These days, China seems to be trying to implement Big Brother through programs and technology.
That said, this is issue 1) that concerns me.
I believe that problems will soon arise in many areas, such as monitoring people, leveling territory and abilities, and limiting status and abilities.
The author believes that the day when practical robots can act 'like humans' in human society is still far away.
2. Each human being is a supercomputer.
Amazingly, the human brain can function perfectly well with just 20 watts of power and generate very little heat.
This easily surpasses the world's most powerful supercomputer.
Mobile eBook: 270p
Don't ignore humans.
The world is gradually changing due to the thoughts and practices of individual brains.
Aren't we constantly growing thanks to countless ideas from the past to the present, including Einstein, Newton, Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, and Elon Musk?
Chat GPT's current power consumption is said to be equivalent to that of a city.
However, humans can perform multiple tasks simultaneously with less power.
Past experience and the complexity and efficiency of the human brain show this.
It is said that not much is yet known about the human brain.
In particular, cloning is a difficult problem compared to other organs and will continue to be a problem in the future.
We are born as humans and live our lives solving problems on our own.
However, I believe that those who solve humanity's problems can achieve wealth and fame.
Therefore, because a person is born with a very good brain, he should always think about how he can be a good person to others in the field he is good at.
3. If you have the ability to control temperature and pressure, you can reach the future faster.
When hydrogen gas is heated and compressed, nuclear fusion occurs and a huge amount of energy can be obtained.
Mobile e-book: 683p
Nuclear fusion is a hydrogen resource that produces almost no waste, can be easily obtained from the sea, and is considered a future energy source with a low risk of explosion.
However, it is said that there is a problem in raising the temperature of hydrogen gas to a high level and fixing it at a certain pressure.
However, if successful, a world will come where electricity can be used without problems such as water.
When mercury is cooled to 4K absolute (-269 degrees Celsius), all electrical resistance disappears. This is called superconductivity, and materials that exhibit this phenomenon are called superconductors.
Mobile e-book: 717p
Superconductors are considered the most efficient means of transportation in the future.
Because there is no resistance, you can travel long distances with only a small amount of energy.
This also has the problem of maintaining the superconductor at room temperature, and if this problem is solved, another distribution revolution will occur.
I believe that if we had technology to control the temperature and pressure of the Earth, we would be able to get one step closer to the world of the future.
Currently, electric vehicles are not environmentally friendly.
This is because fossil fuels are used to produce electricity, and parts used in electric vehicles contain rare minerals.
One day the problems we face will be solved
